His Ballata No. 4, premiered tonight, is lead by radiant Eva Reiter’s viola de gamba, the twelve sounds descending scale rolling out its journey until the initial note. In a more spectral option, the beginning of D’après by Italian Clara Iannotta (1983) is reminiscent of Filidei’s Ballata No. 2. However, the spirit is completely different in the work of Turkish Zeynep Gedizlioğlu (1977), who produces a synthesis between the colourful music of Janissaries and today’s music, whereas American David Coll’s music, furiously aggressive, plunges deep into the entrails of sound.
