Francesco Filidei completed his music studies at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris.
Both as a composer and soloist he has been invited by the most important festivals of contemporary music, his pieces have been performed by orchestras such as WDR, SWR, RSO Wien, ORT, RAI, Tokyo Philharmonic and by ensembles such as Musikfabrik, Linea, l’Itineraire, Alter Ego, NEM, EOC, Intercontemporain, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Klangforum Wien, Cairn, 2E2M, Recherche, Ascolta, Next Mushroom Promotion, Tokyo Synfonietta, Ars Ludi, Icarus, Ictus, Signal, Neue Vocalsolisten, in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Cologne Philharmonie, Paris Cité de la Musique, Suntory Hall and Tokyo Opera House, Theaterhaus Wien, Munich Herkulessal, Zurich Tonhalle among others.
He received the Musikpreis Sazburg Förderpreis, the Commande of the Ircam Reading Panel, the Takefu International Prix, the Förderpreistrager Siemens, the UNESCO Picasso/Miro Medal for the Rostrum of Composers and he has been composer in residence at the Academy Schloss Solitude, Casa de Velazquez, Villa Medici and DAAD. He has been professor of composition in Royaumont, at the Iowa University at the Takefu International Akademie, at the Akademie Tchaikowsky and at the Barga INAUDITA. His works are published by Rai Trade.
